Salazar was half of the No. 7-ranked doubles team before the announcement.

Senior Valeria Salazar is scheduled to undergo surgery on her right wrist and will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, Syracuse head coach Younes Limam said. The injury first agitated Salazar after her final tournament of the fall, he said.

Salazar, the No. 54 player nationally and half the No. 7-ranked doubles pairing with Gabriela Knutson, missed the first four matches of the season before making her only appearance against Virginia on Saturday. Limam said she “played with a lot of pain” against the Cavaliers.

“It’s just one of those injuries where the only solution is to have surgery,” Limam said.

Now done for the year, Syracuse will have to replace half of the team’s first pair to make the NCAA doubles championship since 1996. Knutson has played alongside freshman Miranda Ramirez and sophomore Libi Mesh in Salazar’s absence.

“We just have to adjust to kind of find out our doubles partners,” Knutson said, “and who each person fits with kind of best and just make it work.”
