Letters to the Editor

Reader responds to Jan. 25 column about EPA nominee Scott Pruitt

Scott Pruitt’s position is not that of a climate-change “denier.” It is progressive.

He wrote in the National Review in May of 2016: “Healthy debate is the lifeblood of American democracy, and global warming has inspired one of the major policy debates of our time. That debate is far from settled. Scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind. That debate should be encouraged — in classrooms, public forums, and the halls of Congress. It should not be silenced with threats of prosecution. Dissent is not a crime.”

The reports of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, which reference hundreds of research papers published in the world’s leading science journals, demonstrate that Pruitt’s climate skepticism is well substantiated. The NIPCC shows that much of what we thought we knew about climate is either mistaken or highly debatable.
